Job Profile

To support DFI Corporation’s growth, we are currently seeking to fill a Geotechnical/Materials Engineer position for our Edmonton office.

The Geotechnical/Materials Engineer will play a key role in the organization, and act as a subject matter expert for our geotechnical and materials testing groups. The selected candidate will lead the development of new business opportunities for the geotechnical and materials testing groups, mentor and participate in the development of the group, and continue to develop positive working relationships with current and potential DFI Customers.

Job Duties

  • Development of our geotechnical and material testing lab and personnel through supporting and encouraging technical upgrading and providing direction and mentorship on complex issues and field investigations
  • Manage and/or review projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including allocation of budgets, personnel and resources and client relationships
  • Coordinate with project management teams and other discipline leads to manage project deliverables, ensuring schedule and budget are achieved
  • Lead and actively pursue new business and project opportunities
  • Maintain and develop client relations
  • Maintain technical proficiency, including participation in professional practice groups and organizations
  • Provide excellent customer service and a commitment to technical excellence
  • Participate in the preparation and presentation of training programs
  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work
  • When required, work collaboratively with other departments, DFI Corporation offices and project related work
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering; postgraduate degree (in Geotechnical or related discipline) is an asset
  • Relevant experience and demonstrated management of projects related to geotechnical investigations and design and materials testing service
  • Experience with concrete and steel foundation design/analysis would be an asset
  • Familiarity with conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments would be an asset
  • Project Management skills are necessary, with an ability to track timelines, meet budgets, and schedules
  • Demonstrated ability developing excellent customer relationships, positive staff working environments and developing new business opportunities
  • Registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Ability to travel to sites as needed
  • Strong workplace safety practices and training
  • Cean Class 5 driver's license required
  • Participate in criminal record checks and/or drug screening for site access
  • Strong communication and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated word processing and computer skills
